Canon Blue aka Daniel James has written, recorded and played almost every instrument on his debut album himself. All done with a sharp understanding for the unified whole that is bound to thrill followers of Thom Yorke, Four Tet and Spirtualized. The album is mixed by the much-revered Chris Taylor (of Grizzly Bear) and mastered by Cristian Vogel (acclaimed solo-artist, Radiohead remixer, Chicks on Speed producer and more). It is without doubt one of the most fierce and extrovert releases on Rumraket.
Similarly to Daniel’s own life of travel, the music of ‘Colonies’ staunchly refuses to be pinpointed. It is a dizzying cocoon of new-folk, eccentric-pop and space-rock sensibilities, wrapped warmly with a strong electronic influence.
